Lens-Artists PC: The portrait of a landscape

Maremma in Tuscany: the blues and the greens and an occasional poppy. This is my world and all the colours I need (that’s a lie, I need all the colours).

Maremma is a historical country in Italy with no fixed borders, mostly in Tuscany but also spilling out of it into Lazio and Umbria. And this is where I find myself in the middle of my life, enjoying how its m’s roll off my tongue: Maremmmmma, hoping that this colour scheme continues for a while, for we know:

No water, no life. No blue, no green.
— Sylvia Earle (quote reblogged from Zimmerbitch)

These photos were mostly taken in March, April and May, only one is from September and one from October. Now you know when to come over.

For Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, hosted by Amy at THE WORLD IS A BOOK…: Landscapes

  1. I really enjoy reading your blog, Manja. I like how you tell your story with lots of photos!!! What a beautiful place this is! Green, blue… make my eyes happy. Of course, having a winery is a plus. Ha. Cheer up, March will be here soon!
    Have a wonderful day.

      1. I hear this waiting for March a lot at the moment. I’m actually loving the winter. Oh yeah, not the colds, but the days can be so clear and beautiful, and with trees bare you can really see all the little things happening between!

  2. Just stunning. I yearn for Italy. I don’t know what it is, but I just want to be there. The colours, the smells, the views, the people, the history, the wildlife, the food…everything that is important is there.

    1. Ahh, well said, Scooj. 🙂 Funny thing is that I never yearned for Italy (as such, not naming any names) before moving here. It was always a neighbour, with nice skiing grounds and shops. Italians were loud, often annoying and haughty. But I never came further than Milano. I have a hunch that below a different Italy begins (or two or three). 😉

  3. Gorgeous scenery! You live in one of the world’s most beautiful and picturesque places.

I want to come photograph and try to paint there!

How interesting that place with all the little volcanoes is. New mountains forming, or man-made?
