Lens-Artists PC: Architect of your fortune

We are, aren’t we? The lucky ones, including animals, can build their own home but most of the buildings around us are built yet. Here are some from around here. Which happens to be Tuscany. Which architect built my fortune?

In her post to this week’s Amy-hosted Lens-Artists challenge, Zimmerbitch mentions that concrete is “the second most used substance on the planet after water, and probably the most damaging to our increasingly endangered environment” (from the article in Guardian which I have yet to read), and accordingly posts a photo of a wasp nest. Biodegradable architecture for the win.

I almost went that way and searched for only animal structures, but then realised that humans are animals too.

This is the first half of last year in my photos of buildings. Not only Tuscany, there will be a bit of Rome and wider Lazio region and Orvieto in Umbria too. With the rainbow. The gallery ends with some designated buildings for animals, including photographers.

But at the beginning, they say, there were pyramids.

Oh, and if somebody is keeping count, yesterday my blog remained without its daily post. This is Italy. Builders were on strike.

  If you wonder where in Italy these pyramids could be, wait until the end of gallery.

  First let’s hop to Rome with two buildings, typical of Monteverde area. This one could sing: That’s me on the corner.

  Nothing special and yet so… accomplished.

• 

  This is a part of our condominium two doors down from me.

• 

  Our little train station: Capalbio. Rome in one direction, Pisa in the other – the farthest you can go without changing trains.

• 

  Just behind the station. Apartments, I presume, some still occupied.

• 

  Near the station as well. Just a building.

  Disused saltworks in Saline di Tarquinia. At 10.21 the world stopped.

  Also in Saline di Tarquinia. A silo? The year is 1925.

  Half a silo? In Tatti, the town of 1000 doors.

• 

  Tatti. This is why these Tuscan towns are such adult amusement parks. So many levels.

• 

  This photo shows it even more clearly. Where to turn, what to look at? Capalbio with parents and visitors.

  The church in our regional capital Grosseto, in the Soviet Union Street. (Really.)

  Orvieto, a marvel in many regards.

• 

  The discovery of last year: Massa Marittima. We returned here with travelling Canadians, Norm and his honey. The first thing you see as you park.

  Animal house in the WWF nature reserve on Lake Burano.

  Right there: A different kind of house for animals – a bug hotel!

• 

  And if you’re a paying photographer, you can rent this house and hide here for the wildlife to arrive. I’ll pass.

  As for the pyramids… Just heaps to make more concrete, I’m afraid.
