Khalil Gibran (quote reblogged from The Wandering Sweet Potato)
“When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”
It may be a strange title for an 8th March post but it what it is.
Women, instead of just flowers I wish to gift you two minutes in the life of these goats, swallows and poppies from last May in Grosseto. Let’s munch together and reflect.
Are you happy? Full of joy, or is it sorrow?
Do you wish to know a secret?

I’ll be happier when women no longer need “a day” because equality is a given.

Oh, for sure, Joanne. But to me this reminds me of all that has been and how we got to at least this stage. When I was growing up in Yugoslavia this day was huge and for many women the only day when they were able to go out by themselves… Imagine.

Wow. That is a big deal – in a very shocking kind of way! Celebrate Manja for how far you’ve come!!

Well, I wasn’t speaking of me personally. 😀 Nor of my parents. Slovenians were always pretty good about it, but in other ex-Yugoslav republics to the south it was not like that.

I would be a very happy goat grazing in that field in the shadow of mountains with a whiff of poppies in the air.

Thanks, Bojana. No, me neither, but it reminds me of how it used to be in Yugoslavia. Such a major holiday! 🙂

Thank you, Joey! This used to be such a major day when I was growing up. We drew cards for mothers, grandmothers, teachers. We brought them flowers. We didn’t have father’s day, for example.

That was a great gift! Those are some cool looking goats. And I have to say, I’ve never seen goats in a field of poppies before. Cool pics, and nice quotes. Happy belated Women’s Day!
