Day One: How to take a photo

Happy April! Let National Poetry Writing Month begin!

Challenge 1: “Write poems that provide the reader with instructions on how to do something.”

First I thought to write a poem about how to write a poem but that seemed too obvious so I decided to write about the other thing I know nothing about – just feel – but do it anyway: photography.

How to take a photo

You need magic all around
and eyes to see it,
the camera comes last.

In theory you could also remember
and write about it
since cameras lie.

That’s what they used to do
in the past
without blogs and tools.

They wrote poems and books
or merely diaries,
and painted.

After all, by the sound of it
the camera must be related
to Chimera,

a fire-breathing hybrid creature,
composed of the parts
of more than one animal
.”

So now the camera is on the lookout
for these creatures,
for anything that stirs,

and you are its servant,
master or friend.
You decide.

Watch out for sudden moves,
abnormalities,
magic.

But above all
follow the light.
The light never lies.

Easier said than done,
but I did it.
It led to Italy.
NaPoWriMo

In the photo part, I welcome you to the last three days in the Monteverde district of Rome where spring is going crazy.

    1. Ohhh, right, SMSW! Your allergy! So in a way your city is protecting you with its lack of spring. 😀 For you it’s impossible to travel in the springtime even if you could! Thank you, I’m glad I went under that tree and spied out.

  2. Wow! Your poetry has a beautiful way of speaking truth. I love how you follow the life of the camera here. And I like how you relate the relationship between camera and photographer. With all of the artistry of the photographer to the idiosyncrasies of the camera. That was very cool, Manja! You’re very creative! And your photos are beautiful and perfect to showcase light. Congrats on tackling Poem month! Can’t wait to read more!

    1. Lindsay, you are extremely good to have on one’s side, I hope that enough people have told you that and that it’s still coming. 😉 I would hope that I’m speaking the truth and I’m so glad that you recognise it as such. A new poem coming up every day. 🙂

I will not ask you questions at the end of posts to trick you into commenting. So when you do it on your own, it's that more appreciated. Thank you!
