Lens-Artists PC & Day Two: Hello April fools

With this post I’m going to kill several April flies with one poem and twenty photos.

First, today is the second day of the poetry writing month. Hang in there if you happened to find me in the long list of participants of this year’s NaPoWriMo. There are 24×24 of us and after five years of blogging I know exactly four (if I haven’t missed anybody). How can this even be? Hi, Charlotte, Judy, Maggie and Patrick!

Second, this is the official April 2018 post for my 2018 Calendar in the making. Every month I look back and post twenty photos from the same month one year ago. This means that I took all the photos in the gallery below while writing poems for last year’s NaPoWriMo, my first.

And finally, this is the post for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge on the subject of Hello, April. Which brings us to the poem.

Challenge 2: Write a poem that “resists closure by ending on a question, inviting the reader to continue the process of reading (and, in some ways, writing) the poem even after the poem ends.”

Hello April Fools

Italy is dry in the north.
Water is low.

And it’s April.
There should be floods.

It’s not the change of seasons,
it’s the seasons changing.

We rely on the cycle
and the cycle is breaking.

We are beyond foolish.
We are dead fools.

What will go first?
Water? Food? The sea?

Did you get that?
Does it compute?

How many more Aprils?
How many more poems?

Yesterday’s post might have made you think that I live in Rome where spring is going crazy, but no, I just visit as I did last April. The first four photos are from there. The rest are from my Maremma, the region north of Rome in the south of Tuscany where I have been living for almost six years. Welcome on a stroll with me.

    1. You’re welcome, Maggie! I was surprised to see so many bloggers taking part and I know so few. 🙂 And yet I follow so many but they don’t poem. April is the best month over here. In May greens start to die down and turn in yellows by the summer.

  1. Your poem is brilliant, Manja. And quite insightful! I love it! ‘Seasons changing’ 🙂 nice observation. And your photos are truly phenomenal! You outdid yourself! The reflections and composition of the Lake, the textures on that old boat, and the shallow depth of field at the beach seem inspired. I very much enjoyed this post! Thank you!

  2. Love your photos. Your poem is sobering, especially:

“It’s not the change of seasons,
    it’s the seasons changing.”

Actually, all of your couplets were pretty darned sobering. Well written, and hello new friend!

      1. well that is humble of you to say…
and I did not know that you wrote poetry – I guess I just have seen your “door pots” mainly – and so that was a nice treat – I think you combined challenges well
