Today certain anniversaries are acknowledged, one of which inspired a book for children entitled What happened on April 6? About the other my parents are still not telling.
Suffice to say, here we all are. Cheers, parents. How lucky for you and for me.

Challenge 6: “Write a poem that emphasizes the power of ‘if,’ of the woulds and coulds and shoulds of the world.”
What if April 6 didn’t happen
What if
on this day in 1941
Yugoslavia were not attacked
or, since it was,
nobody fought back?
What if
on this day 25 years later
a man and a woman
didn’t start thinking
how nice it would be to have me?
(Mother insists
on being called
“Yugoslavia”,
while father says
that she was the aggressor.)
What if there were no birth
to mark my being
and in how many worlds
out there
am I not?
What if
the day
without the sun
and all the other stars
were just another night?
In the photo part, various night-time photos from my places in Italy and Slovenia, because Patrick said Night for his Pic and a Word challenge. I’d say that I don’t take many photos at night since they usually suck but I’d be wrong. Here are some favourites.
Let’s start in Rome: Ponte Sisto. Viale di Trastevere at night. The Colosseum. More Trastevere at Christmas. When we had the fireplace. Sunset on the road towards Orvieto. My first Italian wedding (not mine). Let’s hop to Slovenia. Bled Castle above the lake. Cinema under the stars in Piran. Documentary on Laibach in North Korea. Laibach means Ljubljana. From the roof of Hotel Piran. Koper. These lights keep changing colour. The moon, barely. Ljubljana at night. In December Ljubljana goes a bit light crazy. Trnovo church in Ljubljana. Back to Tuscany: Orbetello cathedral. Black butterfly. Tuscany at night. Pereta. Home with my heart on the windowsill.
In response to Patrick Jennings’ Pic and a Word Challenge #181: Night
and for Day 6 of NaPoWriMo

Excellent! I love everything about this.

😀 Thank you, Angela. I’m glad I deliver! And every time I see your “Stop procrastinating now!” I must laugh on the inside because I love doing just that in every other thing except my blog. 😉

I love all that yellow and green. Amazing shots.

Thank you, Bojana. Well, they asked for it. 😀 I never wonder about such things. What happens, happens. You mean the yellows and greens of Bled? Not much green in these photos. Darkness kills green.

No, I meant all the red. I love the night red.

I saw my first black swallowtail butterfly of the season when I went out this morning for my pool exercises because the water was too hot last night! My favorite of your photos is the black butterfly inside the lantern!!! Intriguing photos and fun poem.

In how many worlds am I not?–now there’s a thought!
Isn’t is amazing all the things that had to intersect to produce each one of us? Best not to think too hard about it.
I love the lantern with the butterfly. (K)

Thanks, K. I swear I don’t think of it at all normally, it was the prompt that did it. 😉

I like how the prompts take us in different directions from where we might normally go.

Love the Tuscan photo – so Italian. Lovely poem that make me think existentialially. I love the words though.

Oh, Amanda, this comment went to spam for some reason. Thank you! There are two photos where Tuscany is mentioned, Orbetello and Pereta. Yes, Tuscany is also lovely at night. And I’m glad you like the words too.

I am no spammer, but word press can be a tetchy at times. I must look up those two towns that you mentioned. Thanks for the info

Lovely poem and your pictures are so gorgeous! Night shots are tricky with the lighting but you did well with these. Am i right in assuming (from the poem) that April 6 is your birthday? 🤔

Thank you, Irma! I don’t like taking photos at night at all. Lucky shots. 🙂 I know, I haven’t been clear about it, but no, it’s not my birthday. April 6 is just the day my parents celebrate as the day when they got together and it’s still not clear who made the first move. 😀 I wasn’t born until four years after that.
