Today celebrates my elephant-loving friend and this means that we will have a look at all the elephants gathered in one year.
But first the daily poem that has nothing to do with her.
Challenge 24: “Write a poem that … is inspired by a reference book. Locate a dictionary, thesaurus, or encyclopedia, open it at random, and consider the two pages in front of you to be your inspirational playground for the day.”
Locating a reference book was not easy. It seems we don’t have them. Not even dictionaries, even though I’m a translator. I left them all in Slovenia. Without the internet I’m dead.
Dictionary of New Slovenian Words
In Slovenian language. Pages 206-207.
Inscription: “Mother tongue is full cool. ---Mother. Father. Sister.”
Gifted on the occasion of my moving to Italy in 2013.
Words in capitals represent almost all the entries on these two pages.
See how many are borrowed or derived from English.

And now to the birthday girl. Whenever I see an elephant, I have to save it in some way, if not buy it for you. Here are all the elephants (and relatives) that I spotted in the past year, with some photos of your old neighbourhood where I visited you often, and some of happy you in your elephant shirt.
Unlike most of the languages in this world, it seems, Slovenians have a completely different word for elephant. Let’s count the slons now.
Dear Taja, I wish you a wonderful year full of love and health and joy and more together times. ❤ Happy birthday!
And here are posts from previous years on this day (one year is missing as I was busy with visitors) because elephants never forget:
- 2014: One song, one sea, one elephant
- 2015: More more (featuring Elvis!)
- 2017: Cin cin, Taja and sloni! (with some from Thailand and links to many more elephants)
- 2018: Happy birthday, Taja
A very inspirational poem. And those elephants.

Thank you, Bojana. 🙂 I like it when I get it served, the poem, I must just add a few words. She and her elephants are legendary. 😀

Lustration. Had to look that one up. A very interesting word.

Oh Maggie, I assumed that in English it had even more meanings, but I see now that actually no, it’s not that common at all. Whereas over here it is. Thanks.

Ahh, thank you, Crystal. Here, a me-photo-heavy post when I did a 12-year overview (if you haven’t seen it):
