Such a nice date that I’m a day late. Yesterday called for a bit of celebration, spurred on by the date in the title. Sorry, should have said 16/5/19. Force of habit.
Since I’m still here on a visit, and the sun is finally out making everything so pretty, here are some Ljubljana doors as spotted on the first day of my visit, and look, tomorrow will be the last.
This week flew by, even though I didn’t see the sky for three days. Today we had a lovely day in nature and I got to play with a pro camera NIKON D700 with a huge heavy objective for the very first time. Thanks, Siniša, sometimes it pays to forget your camera at home. 😀 And you fed us too!
Those photos will have to wait till next time since there were no doors to capture today. I’m quite happy with some of them and pretty angry at others. The fact is that I can’t manually focus without proper glasses since my eyesight is going. But I had a taste and it was good.
In other news, we got to try a couple of excellent Ljubljana restaurants (TaBar and Grad Kodeljevo Finisterra), yesterday sister took me to the beautiful Morcheeba concert for my birthday (below their entire show from years ago), and all in all we had a good time despite appalling weather. Tomorrow one more celebration of a friend’s 50 and then back home. (Oh, tomorrow is also the Eurovision Song Contest finals if anybody still cares.)
On Day One we strolled around the centre of Ljubljana after lunch with my poet friend. He is fifty but it was us who got a present: a lioness that his daughter made (the same who made bestia three years ago):

And finally, here is a mixed bag of Ljubljana doors.
This old tram used to sell something. Now it looks a bit forlorn. No functioning trams remain in Ljubljana. Neither subway. “Od Žmauca sosed pa ud brata prjatu.” All this is this pub’s name. I don’t know what their neighbour does but I like the colour. Hard to shoot doors with a couple of rompipalle. 😀 (Nahh, they were just teasing.) This is an exit from the park next to my old Faculty of Arts where I studied English. The place behind the Faculty. An attempt to hide the air-conditioning. The Faculty building peeks on the right. A pretty one. This gate looks like shot through. That was one seriously precise shooting. First it said “Stop militarisation”, now it supports it. A fun one. This is a kind of view that makes my day. Isn’t it lovely. A fancy one from the bottom of Čopova Street. A close-up. Such a yum pistachio colour. Čopova St.
So many doors! I’m drawn to the blue house’s doors. There’s something cool and soothing about them that appeals. Your hometown is so photogenic.

Thank you, Susanne. And true, it really is! Now that I only return a few times a year I notice it even more. It’s pretty and special.

Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you had a lovely time celebrating. Love all the street art here and the very cool railway car.

Thank you so much, Lisa! 🙂 It’s hard to say this with 100% accuracy, but I believe the present I loved the best is the Italian canzone that amore sang for us at a karaoke party. 😀 He’s a talent! ❤ And I'm glad you like my town of birth. I've seen that you've posted – in fact, I've had your post opened since – but haven't had time yet.

Not that I care but let the best win…which is rarely the case here. Oh well….
Love the Doors….and Morcheeba.
Happy birthday, dear. All the best.

Thank you, Bojana!! 🙂 I’ve noticed the fiery Serbian woman in there this year… All the best to her too. Not quite the Doors though, one of my all time favourites.

She does have a great voice. Yours is quite interesting. Very out of ordinary for the Eurovision, to say the least.
(Nth today is like the Doors…..People are strange…)

Fascinating doors, this week, Manja. Those metal gates are amazing. The tram does look like it needs a bit of TLC. Can you rescue it? Turn it into a coffee shop?

Thank you, Amanda. 🙂 This is a pretty city, no doubt. Trams have not been running here for 60 years. This one used to be a coffee shop in this location, for quite a while. I didn’t even know they closed. Who knows what happens next.

Actually, just realized that I have both a green garage door and a green front gate door! But not as bright green as yours. mine has a tinge of blue in it.

Great collection, as always. Love the green one for all it’s detailed decorative beauty and the sky blue building with the white arched door keeps calling to me, despite the air conditioner 😀
Belated but very warm and heartfelt wishes from both of us for your birthday! Celebrate all weekend okay? Hugs 🙂

Thank you so much, Norm. I celebrated all week! No matter how weather tried to put us down. The best part was amore crooning canzone for our karaoke party, no contest! I’m glad you like my doors. There were more but not as many as I’d hope for. There was food though. One can’t have everything. 😀

Gritty tram doors and luxe corner doors, completely different in texture, style, and finish, but oh, those are my faves.

Thank you, Joey. Doors of Italy are sweet, but those of home town are sweeter. 🙂
