Thursday Doors, 11/7/19: Koper

Today I had to post before Norm does (find him in this post) since I’m off to Slovenia, and to celebrate it rained after terrible heat and here are some Slovenian doors from the largest Slovenian port city.

Koper – on account of this being bilingual territory it also goes by its Italian name Capodistria – is one of the last places I visited last summer before returning home to Tuscany after two months in Slovenia. This is the second post with its doors and chances are there will be the third. (The first is here.)

I was impressed at how similar these doors are to the Italian ones and yet you know exactly that you are no longer in Italy. Or not yet.

  • Towards the central square in the old town.
  • Well, thank you, really. Don’t you love it when it seems that a door has been left somewhere just so you can find it?
  • Vaguely Egyptian.
  • Some are less well-kept than others.
  • I cannot tell you how much I love it that I don’t need to search for historical data.
  • Some sort of palace, alright? I need to pack!
  • A bit of an amusement park feel.
  • Must be ice-cream.
  • And a church.
  • Church door. Okay, probably cathedral.
  • See? In Slovenia they put so much writing on doors and around them. In Italy never. Nobody reads.
  • A well lived-in one.
  • Headquarters of The Hearing Loss Association.
  • Whereas here lives (works?) a lawyer.
  • See what I mean? Similar to Italy and yet not. More low key.
  • Pretty. Solid. One plant. Slovenia.
  • This courtyard took me by surprise.
  • Look at those round holes! It’s a ship!
  • The cars were in the way and the light was not right. Should return one morning.
  • This is also… better than just interesting.

  6. That orange and blue, round holes, too, really is spectacular, especially in that courtyard of color! However, arches. Oh the arches on the palace. Love!

  8. What a lovely courtyard, packed with colours. I would have been delighted to stumble there accidentally. One of my fave doors here is the “well lived in” door, and I like how you describe it. And the Hearing Loss door is gorgeous! Thanks for keeping us bloggified while you’re on the road. I hope the travel went smoothly and safely.

    1. Thank you, Crystal. Oh yes, it was smooth despite some road works that caused stoppages. Bloggified is a great word. 😀 I shall attempt to keep it up as I’m planning to stay here for a while. I’m glad you like the doors and captions. 🙂

    For me it’s between that church and the blue door with the round openings up top above it; Yes the cars..grrr! Don’t they know we’re coming? 😉

  10. I love your tours. It’s almost as good as being there 🙂

    The feature photo is hands-down my favourite. So pretty in blue! … and yes, the round nautical style windows don’t hurt either 😉
