Friendly Friday bricks and tiles

I almost wrote bricks and bones, but no, we aren’t going to break anything today. Instead we are on the hunt for brick and tile patterns.

Today I’m hosting Friendly Friday photo challenge to help out Snow Melts Somewhere for the third time. Chances are high that she will be back in two weeks when it’s her turn again. Until then she calls brick and tiles as this week’s theme. Let’s deliver!

Today I have three galleries for you, combining bricks and tiles from Italy and Slovenia.

To start with, one with bricks: the first row is Siena and its trademark brick colour, the three photos in the second row are from three different towns in Tuscany, and in the third is Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. All photos enlarge upon contact.

        And this is how I’ve made it. I rarely make cakes. I love eating them, though, but this one I had to try baking on my own. And it was worth it. God, how on earth am I going to fall asleep now?!

        Usitniti-lesnik-80g, orahe-80g, 150g celih badema, oljustiti
        + 50g ocedjenih visanja (ja stavim vise)
        + pola kasicice soli, djumbira u prahu, muskat.orasc, cimeta, bibera
        + rendana kora 1 limuna
        + 1-g kandiranog voca (ananas, mogu i smokve)
        + 4 kasike brasna
        Sve promesati

        Sirup-150g meda, secera (ja ne stavljam secer, dovoljno je slatko)
        1 kesica vanillin secera
        30g margarina
        Staviti na tihu vatru da se uz mesanje sjedini
        Onda sve prebaciti u prvu posudu

        Rerna na 150 step., peci oko 40 min
        Mora da se ohladi dobro pre secenja

      3. Hhahha, I’ve caught it alright! Thank you so much! The fact that it’s in Serbian made me giggle. If anybody else wants the recipe, we may translate it one day. 😀 Sure, I know of panforte (and have probably tasted it at some point) but I had no idea there is pepper inside! 😮 How curious!

  2. Ah!! What a joy it must be to wander around these streets discovering a something new and unique at every corner. I have much fascination for old European towns. These pictures make me crave for a trip! ❤️

  11. I have loved that colorful Tarot Garden (Il Giardino dei tarocchi) since the first time you brought me here. And your composition of the Hidden Courtyard in Siena is a stand out among a fantastic gallery of images. Love!

    1. Thank you so much, Lisa! The Tarot Garden is a sure uplift for the soul. Niki de Saint Phalle did it to heal hers. I’m glad you like that Siena shot. Don’t tell other towns, but I think it quite may be my favourite. 🙂

      3. It is a deal although you might have to wait for us to have another go around. We’ve decided to go through the Canal again in November to beat the 100%+ increase and we are heading onward to La Paz. We may come back to the Atlantic after that through the Canal but my guess is that we will be coming to the Med the long way around 🙂

  12. Looks like I will be adding Orbetello to my wishlist of potential destinations. Great prompt, Snow and wonderful challenge post, Manja. I think we shall see quite a few interesting entries this week. And I can revel in the lovely visuals of stonework and mosaics.

    1. Thank you, Amanda. 🙂 I suppose people are busy summering (or wintering in your case) but I hope for some further bricks and tiles contributions too. I’m curious – which photo sold Orbetello to you, the bricks or the floor mosaic? There is also the flamingo lagoon… Good choice!
