Pic and a Word Challenge #181: Night & Day Six

Today certain anniversaries are acknowledged, one of which inspired a book for children entitled What happened on April 6? About the other my parents are still not telling.

Suffice to say, here we all are. Cheers, parents. How lucky for you and for me.

Stuck between wine and mineral water.

Challenge 6: “Write a poem that emphasizes the power of ‘if,’ of the woulds and coulds and shoulds of the world.”

What if April 6 didn’t happen

What if
on this day in 1941
Yugoslavia were not attacked
or, since it was,
nobody fought back?

What if
on this day 25 years later
a man and a woman
didn’t start thinking
how nice it would be to have me?

(Mother insists
on being called
“Yugoslavia”,
while father says
that she was the aggressor.)

What if there were no birth
to mark my being
and in how many worlds
out there
am I not?

What if
the day
without the sun
and all the other stars
were just another night?

In the photo part, various night-time photos from my places in Italy and Slovenia, because Patrick said Night for his Pic and a Word challenge. I’d say that I don’t take many photos at night since they usually suck but I’d be wrong. Here are some favourites.

  1. I saw my first black swallowtail butterfly of the season when I went out this morning for my pool exercises because the water was too hot last night! My favorite of your photos is the black butterfly inside the lantern!!! Intriguing photos and fun poem.

  2. In how many worlds am I not?–now there’s a thought!
Isn’t is amazing all the things that had to intersect to produce each one of us? Best not to think too hard about it.
I love the lantern with the butterfly. (K)

    1. Oh, Amanda, this comment went to spam for some reason. Thank you! There are two photos where Tuscany is mentioned, Orbetello and Pereta. Yes, Tuscany is also lovely at night. And I’m glad you like the words too.

  3. Lovely poem and your pictures are so gorgeous! Night shots are tricky with the lighting but you did well with these. Am i right in assuming (from the poem) that April 6 is your birthday? 🤔

    1. Thank you, Irma! I don’t like taking photos at night at all. Lucky shots. 🙂 I know, I haven’t been clear about it, but no, it’s not my birthday. April 6 is just the day my parents celebrate as the day when they got together and it’s still not clear who made the first move. 😀 I wasn’t born until four years after that.

I will not ask you questions at the end of posts to trick you into commenting. So when you do it on your own, it's that more appreciated. Thank you!
